The course is in Czech language. /// Would you like to create notebooks according to your own ideas? During the workshop, you will learn how to make 5 types of notebook bindings (V1), which are not only functional but also beautiful. We will introduce you to different binding techniques, from simple classic ones like binding with metal staples, to more complex decorative stitches that will give your notebooks a unique look. You will choose paper according to your preferences and create unique covers to complement your notebooks. All the materials we use to make the notebooks are unused or waste paper.
What will you experience during the workshop?
- Introduction to the Reformát project
- Choosing paper, preparing sections, and covers
- Assembling the notebooks
- Binding sections using 5 types of stitching (metal staples on a wire-stitcher, simpler and more complex decorative stitches with thread)
- Finishing touches (adding an elastic band, creating pockets)
Why attend our workshop?
- We approach creation sustainably by upcycling unused materials. All paper in our workshop comes from second-hand sources.
- In our bookbinding workshop, history meets new technologies. During the workshops, you will have the opportunity to work with both new bookbinding machines and those that are several decades old.
Lector Veronika Švédová
Veronika, the instructor, studied book design at the Higher Vocational School of Graphic Arts in Prague – Hellichovka. During her studies, she focused on creating illustrations using artistic graphic techniques such as linocut, drypoint, etching, etc. In addition to traditional digital graphic design, her work took a turn toward classical and handcrafted creation. She further shaped her illustrations into book objects, which she created from start to finish—graphic design, typesetting, illustration, binding, and the actual printing process. The design of books and bookbinding crafts revealed a new world to Veronika, which inspired her, and bookbinding and paper became the focus of her life’s work. You can find her on social media under the brand Teď nastala ta chvíle (Now is the Moment). The concept revolves around being in the present moment. And what brings you more into the present moment than creative work?
