Making a Sketchbook → Ring Binding
06/12

cena:
950.00

The course is in Czech language. /// Whether you’ve been friends with a pencil or paints since childhood or are just getting to know each other, you definitely shouldn’t miss having the right sketchbook. And what is the right one? The one you make yourself, tailored to your needs. During the workshop, we will introduce you to a simple binding technique using bookbinding rings. We’ll guide you through the entire process of creating a sketchbook – from folding the sheets into a book block to binding the sketchbook itself. We will also use old posters and collected papers for the production. So, in addition to a new sketchbook, you will take home inspiration on how to creatively use waste materials.

What to expect during the workshop?

  1. Introduction to the Reformát project
  2. Selection of papers and materials for covering the book covers
  3. Assembling the pages with the cover and trimming the book block
  4. Covering the book, drilling, and binding the book block onto the rings
  5. Finishing touches (adding an elastic band, decorating inner pages with stamps, adding a pocket, etc.)

Why take the workshop with us?

  • We approach creation sustainably by upcycling unused materials. All the paper in our workshop comes from second-hand sources.
  • In our bookbinding workshop, history meets new technology. During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to work with both modern and several decades-old bookbinding machines.

Teacher Eliška Pačesová

She first became closely acquainted with bookbinding in high school while studying paper and book restoration – an area that captivated her so much she decided to pursue it further. She perceives the process of hand-binding a book as an almost magical experience, resulting in a unique, tangible outcome of creative work. This inspires her to share her knowledge and skills through bookbinding workshops, so that others can also discover the joy of this traditional craft.
